CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Former Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Rai has said he will continue to follow the decisions of the party’s national leadership after being replaced as the state Congress chief. Speaking after Congress appointed Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ as the new Uttar Pradesh Congress president, Rai described himself as a “Hanuman” to Rahul Gandhi and said he would remain available for the party’s political fight.
Rai said the national leadership had earlier asked him to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi politically, and he had done so with full strength. He also recalled contesting against Modi from Varanasi in the 2024 Lok Sabha election and thanked Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership for their support. Rai welcomed Mishra’s appointment and expressed hope that she would strengthen the organisation and maintain the confidence of party workers.
He said political positions were temporary and pointed to his five terms as MLA from Pindra. The leadership change comes ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with Congress also appointing Saharanpur MP Imran Masood as working president. Rai said he would continue working to strengthen the Congress regardless of the position he holds.
