A major development has emerged regarding the Indian cricket team’s selection committee. Current chief selector Ajit Agarkar has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he does not wish to continue in the post after his term. According to reports, Agarkar has communicated this to the board. His current tenure is due to end on October 4, 2026. Agarkar took charge as chairman of the Indian men’s senior selection committee in July 2023. During his tenure, the Indian team played the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup and won the 2024 T20 World Cup, the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup.

According to reports, Agarkar was likely to get a one-year extension to his tenure, but he has shown no interest in continuing. There have also been recent reports of differences between the selection committee and the BCCI over Rohit Sharma’s ODI future. However, the board has not officially clarified the reason for Agarkar’s decision to step down. The BCCI will now take forward the process of finding a new chief selector. Media reports have named former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel and current selector Pragyan Ojha as possible options. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has said a decision on Agarkar’s future will be taken at the appropriate time.
