CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Recently, a petition was filed in the Ajmer Civil Court, demanding that the dargah land be declared as the “Shri Sankatmochan Mahadev Virajman Temple.” The petition claims that a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva once stood at the dargah site, where rituals like worship and Jalabhishek were conducted.
The petition references a book written in 1911 by Harivilas Sharda, which allegedly supports this claim. The court has accepted the petition and issued notices to the dargah committee and other relevant parties. The next hearing is scheduled for December 20.
Ajmer Sharif Dargah, the tomb of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, was established in the 12th century. It is considered a spiritual center for people of various faiths and a symbol of communal harmony.
Nasaruddin Chishti, the head of the dargah, dismissed the petition, stating, “Such claims can disrupt societal peace and are an attempt to harm religious harmony.” He emphasized that the dargah has a centuries-old history and has always been open to people of all religions.
From a historical perspective, the construction of the dargah was initiated by Sultan Ghyasuddin Khilji and later developed by Mughal emperors. It remains a symbol of communal harmony and religious tolerance to this day.
Experts believe that resolving such disputes requires an in-depth study of historical facts and evidence to maintain religious and cultural peace. This approach can foster unity and understanding in society, preventing any form of unrest.
