CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal/Uttar Pradesh: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the Uttar Pradesh government, accusing it of prioritizing event management over public welfare amidst the ongoing flood crisis. Addressing the media, Akhilesh termed the Yogi Adityanath-led administration a “failed government” that is more concerned with image-building exercises than addressing the ground realities faced by flood-affected citizens.
Several districts in Uttar Pradesh are grappling with heavy rainfall, overflowing rivers, and waterlogged villages, leading to displacement, property loss, and disrupted livelihoods. Akhilesh criticized the inadequate disaster response, delayed relief efforts, and poor infrastructure planning that have worsened the crisis. He alleged that instead of focusing on rehabilitation and flood mitigation, the state government is indulging in photo-ops and political propaganda.
The remarks come at a politically sensitive time, as the state gears up for upcoming elections and both ruling and opposition parties attempt to sway public opinion. Akhilesh urged the state machinery to act swiftly and compassionately to aid affected families and to invest in long-term solutions like improved drainage systems, embankments, and weather preparedness.
The issue of floods in UP is once again highlighting the need for better governance, accountability, and sustainable development strategies.
