CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has reiterated his opposition to the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), saying that his party would continue to oppose EVM-based voting even if it wins all the seats in an election. He again called for voting through ballot papers.
Speaking to media representatives in Lucknow on September 28, Yadav questioned the need for multiple layers of technology in the electoral process and argued in favour of ballot papers. He cited the electoral systems of the United States and Germany while making his case for paper ballots.
Yadav also referred to his earlier concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission and the electoral process in Uttar Pradesh. He has previously alleged irregularities in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and subsequent bypolls.
