Akshay Kumar’s ‘Mauja Hi Mauja’ to reimagine ‘Sankranthiki’ story for Bollywood

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New details have emerged about Akshay Kumar’s upcoming comedy film ‘Mauja Hi Mauja’. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the film will also feature Vidya Balan and Raashii Khanna in important roles. The project is being described as a reimagined film inspired by the story of the 2025 Telugu hit ‘Sankranthiki Vasthunam’.

In ‘Sankranthiki Vasthunam’, a former police officer sets out with his former girlfriend to solve a high-profile kidnapping case. His wife also joins them, setting off a chain of relationships, misunderstandings and comedy in the story.

According to reports, Anees Bazmee plans to retain the central premise of the original story while adapting it in a new style for Hindi audiences. However, producer Dil Raju had earlier clarified reports describing the film as a direct remake of the Telugu film. Therefore, it is currently more appropriate to call it a reimagined story. Reports say the film’s shoot will be completed in July 2026. Its new release schedule is yet to be finalised, and according to recent reports, the film may release in 2027.
