CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Chennai. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made major changes to their coaching staff ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027. The team has appointed former South Africa all-rounder Albie Morkel as assistant coach and former India fast bowler Mohit Sharma as bowling coach. Former England spinner Gareth Batty will also join the team as an assistant coach. These appointments are part of the process of reshaping the team’s support staff under new head coach Zaheer Khan.
Return of old Super Kings: Albie Morkel played for CSK from 2008 to 2013. He was part of the team that won the IPL titles in 2010 and 2011. During his playing days, Morkel contributed with both bat and ball. He will now take up coaching responsibilities and share his past experience with the team. Earlier, he was serving as head coach of Joburg Super Kings in South Africa’s SA20 league.
Mohit Sharma to handle bowling responsibilities: Former India fast bowler Mohit Sharma has been made CSK’s new bowling coach. He has also played for the Chennai team in the past and has represented other teams in the IPL, including Gujarat Titans. Mohit will contribute to the bowlers’ preparation and strategy on the basis of his IPL experience and understanding of fast bowling. He will take over this responsibility in place of Eric Simons.
New coaching team with Zaheer Khan: CSK have also appointed Gareth Batty as assistant coach. Batty has worked as head coach of Surrey County team in England. With these appointments, the franchise has changed its old coaching structure. The team has parted ways with Michael Hussey, Eric Simons and some other support staff.
Will CSK’s picture change in IPL 2027? Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings have not been able to reach the playoffs in the past few seasons. The new coaching team will now face the challenge of improving player preparation, bowling combinations and team strategy. However, changes in the coaching staff do not automatically guarantee a title. The team’s performance will also depend on player selection, fitness, the auction and execution of strategy on the field.
