CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Allahabad High Court has recently expanded its bench with the appointment of two distinguished advocates—Amitabh Kumar Rai and Rajiv Lochan Shukla—as judges of the High Court. The Supreme Court collegium recommended their elevation on March 25, 2025, and the Union Ministry of Law and Justice formalized the decision through an official notification on September 6, 2025
Rai, who primarily practiced at the Lucknow bench, and Shukla, a seasoned advocate at the Allahabad High Court, took their oaths in a formal ceremony conducted by Chief Justice Arun Bhansali, with all sitting judges in attendance
. The court’s current strength now stands at 87 judges, including the Chief Justice
—a modest boost against a sanctioned capacity of 160 judges
These judicial appointments underscore the institution’s ongoing commitment to addressing staffing shortfalls and bolstering its capacity to manage a high volume of pending cases.
