CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Dairy (Independent Charge), Lakhan Patel, emphasized the necessity of incorporating alternative veterinary practices for the proper treatment of animal diseases. He stated that due to modern medical practices, the increasing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in humans and animals caused by excessive use of antibiotics is turning into a global pandemic-level threat. The overuse of antibiotics in modern medicine is negatively affecting both humans and animals, leading to the worldwide challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Therefore, it is crucial to adopt alternative veterinary practices such as Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Traditional Medicine, and Unani Medicine, which offer cost-effective and side-effect-free treatments for animals.
Minister Patel inaugurated a two-day workshop on “Alternative Veterinary Practices” at Hotel Palash Residency. The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including former Uttar Pradesh Minister Mahendra Singh, Director of Deendayal Research Institute Chitrakoot Abhay Mahajan, Chairman of the Veterinary Council of India Umeshchand Sharma, and Director of Animal Husbandry and Dairy P.S. Patel.
The workshop brought together 13 subject matter experts from various states and over 100 departmental officials.
Minister Patel stated that India has a long-standing tradition of using alternative and traditional veterinary medicine, which this workshop aims to revive and promote among the masses. He expressed hope that the brainstorming sessions conducted by experts over the two-day workshop would provide valuable insights and recommendations for advancements in animal healthcare.
