CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress / ITDC News Bhopal: It has been over three decades since Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife Amarjot Kaur died in an assassination. However, his legacy and memory lives on through his first wife Gurmail Kaur, and his children with both wives. Gurmail, who is still alive, has mostly stayed away from the public eye. However, last week, she made a rare public appearance when she attended the premiere of Amar Singh Chamkila in Mumbai. Gurmail, the mother of Chamkila’s two daughters, joined Amar and Amarjot’s son Jaiman at the special night and even met Diljit Dosanjh.

In a video shared by Diljit on Instagram, Gurmail was dressed in a simple churidaar and met the Punjabi superstar. The late singer’s wife was visibly emotional as she hugged Diljit on the red carpet. She also stood for a few pictures before she made her way to watch the film. Watch the video below:

Amar Singh Chamkila’s son Jaiman revealed in an interview last year that he was in touch with Gurmail. Speaking with Cine Punjabi, a Punjabi content platform, Jaiman said, “I am in touch with Chamkila’s first family. I have two sisters from his first wife, Amandeep and Kamaldeep. The older is married and has two kids, and Kamal is getting married this year (2023).”

“When I go meet her, she greets me well but that’s it. From the beginning, it’s been this way. It is not her fault nor our (the children) fault,” he added. Asked if they share their sorrow about losing Chamkila, Jaiman said in Punjabi, “Sometimes we speak and she would say that if your father was around, we wouldn’t be in such state. He worked really hard, people’s evil eyes impacted him, he had too many enemies. I have my sisters as well, we try to share our pain as much as we can.”

Jaiman Chamkila, following the footsteps of his father and sister, is a singer as well. He was brought up by his maternal grandparents. Every year, on Chamkila’s death anniversary, Jaiman and his sisters organise a mela in his honour. They invite fans and fellow artists to join them in celebrating Chamkila’s music and memory.
