CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: People often do not pay attention to how much water they should drink with a tablet while taking medicine. According to experts, it is important to take medicine with enough water, as this helps the tablet to be swallowed easily and reach the stomach through the oesophagus. If medicine is taken with too little water, some tablets can stick in the throat or oesophagus and cause irritation or other discomfort.
According to Narendra Sharma, pharmacist at MMG Hospital in Ghaziabad, it is generally better to take medicine with plain water. Taking medicine with tea, milk, juice or other beverages should be avoided unless permitted by a doctor or mentioned in the medicine’s instructions. With some medicines, food and drinks can affect their absorption process.
Experts say that for most medicines, at least half a glass of water is considered useful, while for some medicines a full glass of water may be necessary. Therefore, the instructions given on the medicine label should be followed. Lying down immediately after taking medicine can also increase discomfort in the case of some medicines. In such a situation, it is better to sit upright or stand for at least some time.
