Be Mindful! Evil Tendencies Are More Active — They Can Be Overcome by Virtuous Behavior
But if good tendencies become indifferent, then evil tendencies gain strength once again… and can turn your life into a living hell. This is because the subconscious mind is constantly active—it remains awake even after you fall asleep, transforming your tendencies, nature, and behavior into ingrained habits. This transformation is so subtle and invisible that you won’t even realize what kind of future you’re choosing for yourself.
Your perceptions, intellect, and strength—these all evolve into behavior through your tendencies and nature, leaving a deep impact on your life. Without a strong inner resolve, your subconscious can lead you toward ruin even while you’re alive.
Human beings are deeply influenced by their environment—country, time, and circumstances. One’s lifestyle, upbringing, education, friend circle, and life experiences guide them on their journey. No life is entirely without obstacles. The way one learns and grows shapes their personality and ultimately, their future.
According to the scriptures of astrology, a person’s destiny is written before birth. This explains how someone born in extreme poverty can rise to become a high-ranking officer, a national leader, a renowned entrepreneur, or a revered spiritual figure. Conversely, someone born into a virtuous family might grow into a wicked person, squander inherited wealth and reputation, and bring shame upon generations of legacy.
Behind all this lies the law of time, place, and karma. This law silently inspires and influences human action, which in turn leads to positive or negative outcomes—progress or downfall.
An evil son becomes the cause of his lineage’s suffering, while a virtuous son brings eternal glory to the family.
Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita:
“Karmaṇo hy api boddhavyaṁ boddhavyaṁ ca vikarmaṇaḥ।
Akarmaṇaś ca boddhavyaṁ gahanā karmaṇo gatiḥ।।” (4.17)
Which means: One should understand what karma (action) is, what vikarma (forbidden action) is, and what akarma (inaction or selfless action) is. The path of karma is indeed mysterious. Just as a calf finds its mother among thousands of cows, the fruit of one’s actions inevitably finds the doer.
So should one stop acting altogether? No! Without action, nothing can be achieved.
As the scripture says:
“Udyamena hi siddhyanti kāryāṇi na manorathaiḥ।
Na hi suptasya siṁhasya praviśanti mukhe mṛgāḥ।।”
Which means: Success is achieved through effort, not by daydreams. Just as deer don’t walk into the mouth of a sleeping lion, one must strive to accomplish goals.
The message is clear—an action-oriented person will always reach their goal. Fate, destiny, and karma together fulfill one’s objectives. Therefore, action is the most important factor.
We are all bound by our karma—it determines our birth, our life, and even our death. In truth, no one chooses their future—they choose their habits. Repeated actions shape one’s behavior, which becomes a part of personality through continuous learning under specific circumstances. This becomes one’s nature, which then turns into behavior—and behavior ultimately determines the future.
Be mindful—evil tendencies are always more active and must be defeated with good behavior. If good tendencies become indifferent, evil tendencies regain strength. They can devastate your life—because your subconscious is always working. Even after you fall asleep, it’s still awake, turning your tendencies into character, behavior, and destiny.
This process is so subtle, you won’t even realize the future you’re setting for yourself. Your perception, intellect, and energy are all molded by your tendencies into actions that shape your life permanently. If you lack firm determination, your subconscious will lead you to hell—while you’re still alive.
Hence, cultivate the ability to restrain harmful tendencies and learn self-discipline. This is what builds your future—and even transforms the karmic fate of many lifetimes.
To prevent negative tendencies from taking root, remain constantly alert. Avoid bad company, toxic literature, harmful behavior, and destructive thoughts. This is not easy. Without noble companionship, it’s hard to escape bad influence. Without inspiring literature, harmful content will dominate. Without total commitment to good behavior, negative habits will sneak into your life. And negative thoughts can only be erased through noble, elevated thoughts.
Therefore, to purify your diet, behavior, tendencies, and nature—seek the guidance of uplifting literature, friends, gurus, and saints. Your subconscious will then begin to guide you accordingly. The echo of your inner self will start showing you the right path.
