CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has said his We The Leaders Foundation would provide 50% representation to women in the State Cabinet if it comes to power. Speaking at an event honouring women achievers with Kamaraj awards, Annamalai said half of the Cabinet should comprise women. An initiative called the Abdul Kalam Centre for Ethics in Politics is scheduled to be inaugurated in Coimbatore on October 15. The centre aims to train more than one lakh men and women to participate in upcoming local body and Assembly elections.
The foundation said more than 20 lakh volunteers have registered with the movement since Annamalai left the BJP in June. October has been designated by the organisation as a month focused on women’s safety and empowerment, with programmes covering safety, justice, education, economic empowerment, health and political participation. A women’s marathon is also planned in Coimbatore on October 11. Annamalai has additionally called for greater participation of women in electoral politics.
