New Delhi. Anvay Dravid, son of Indian cricket great Rahul Dravid, has once again made headlines with a brilliant performance in Under-19 cricket. The 17-year-old, captaining Karnataka in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Elite tournament, played an explosive innings of 151 runs off 100 balls against Gujarat. Riding on his superb batting, Karnataka won the match by five wickets and secured a place in the knockout stage of the tournament.
In the match played in Visakhapatnam, Gujarat batted first and scored 357 for four in 50 overs. Sameer Bhandari made an unbeaten 119, while Yash Panjwani scored an unbeaten 106. The two batters put together a big 217-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take Gujarat to a strong total.
Karnataka’s chase did not begin easily. After early wickets fell, Anvay Dravid steadied the innings with Dhruv Krishnan. Anvay hit 20 fours and three sixes in his 151-run knock. He combined aggressive strokeplay with responsibility and helped the team in its pursuit of a big target.
Anvay and Dhruv Krishnan added more than 200 runs for the third wicket. Dhruv also batted brilliantly, scoring 131 off 100 balls. Their partnership put Karnataka in a strong position in the match. Even after Anvay was dismissed, the team continued moving towards the target and reached the revised total in 45.3 overs for the loss of five wickets. Under the VJD method, applied because of rain or other conditions, Karnataka had been set a revised target of 352. The team achieved it with five wickets in hand to register the win.
This was Anvay’s second century in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. Earlier, he had scored 104 off 62 balls against Chandigarh. In the previous match against Delhi, he had also played a quick innings of 85 off 41 balls. With consistent performances, Anvay has played an important role in taking Karnataka to the knockout stage. Cricket fans are closely watching Anvay, who, like Rahul Dravid, is showing technically strong batting along with an aggressive game. However, the challenge ahead for him will be to maintain this consistency and contribute for the team in bigger matches.
