CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Mumbai. Sharp remarks against the Election Commission were made during a Cockroach Janata Party protest over the demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and the special intensive revision of the electoral roll. At the protest held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka questioned the functioning of the Election Commission and commented on Gyanesh Kumar’s leadership.

Ranka alleged that a crisis of trust had emerged among people over the current electoral system. He reiterated the demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. In his statement, Ranka also referred to the tenure of former Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan while expressing disagreement with the present Election Commission by comparison. These remarks are political allegations made by him and the CJP.

The CJP protest also focused on the issue of the special intensive revision of the electoral roll. The organisation claims that the names of a large number of voters have been removed from the list. However, these claims have not been independently verified. The Election Commission has earlier presented its position on questions raised over these processes and related decisions.

Earlier, on October 2, a protest was also held against the Election Commission in Delhi, where, according to police, around 700 people were detained. The protesters had not been granted permission to hold a gathering at Jantar Mantar. The CJP has now announced another protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on October 10.
