CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has come forward in support of young batter Ruturaj Gaikwad amid growing criticism on social media and from cricket fans. Ashwin stated that modern cricketers often face extreme reactions online, where criticism can quickly turn into personal abuse. He emphasized that players go through difficult phases in their careers and deserve patience and encouragement instead of constant negativity.
Speaking about Gaikwad’s recent performances, Ashwin noted that talent and consistency cannot be judged by a few matches. He highlighted the pressure faced by young players representing India and said social media commentary sometimes crosses acceptable limits. According to Ashwin, constructive criticism is part of professional sport, but personal attacks affect athletes mentally and emotionally.
Gaikwad, known for his elegant batting style and performances in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League, has recently been under scrutiny following inconsistent outings. Ashwin’s remarks have sparked discussions about toxic fan culture and the increasing pressure on modern athletes in the digital age. Many former cricketers and fans have also echoed similar concerns regarding online abuse directed at sports personalities.
