CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has advised India’s rapidly growing semiconductor industry to remain alert to possible cyberattacks and other threats. He said geopolitical risks could also increase as India advances in chip design and manufacturing.
Vaishnaw said India is now strengthening its role in the global semiconductor value chain. In this situation, the industry should be prepared not only for cyberattacks but also for misinformation, physical disruptions and other possible challenges. He said he would discuss the issue with industry representatives. According to the minister, the semiconductor sector is of strategic importance and India should not take its growing role lightly. He stressed the need for better coordination among industry, the Centre and state governments, along with constant vigilance to deal with risks.
The Government of India is focusing on developing a domestic ecosystem for semiconductor manufacturing and design. Under Semicon 2.0, areas such as chip design, fabrication plants, equipment and materials, advanced packaging, research and talent development are being promoted. According to the government, 12 semiconductor projects have already been approved in the first phase.
