CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Malegaon. In Maharashtra’s Malegaon, Islam Party chief Asif Sheikh has targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party over the Hindu Jan Aakrosh Morchas. He questioned why claims were being made that Hindus are in danger when the BJP is in power in Maharashtra and the party talks about creating a Hindu nation. Sheikh said, “Hindus are not in danger, the BJP is in danger.”

Asif Sheikh’s remarks came in the context of Hindu Jan Aakrosh Morchas being organised under the banner of Sakal Hindu Samaj in different cities of Maharashtra. Targeting BJP leader Nitesh Rane and his associates, he alleged that these events are being used to create a sense of insecurity among Hindus. These are his political allegations.

‘Do not try to intimidate Muslims’ Sheikh said the country’s Muslims believe in the Constitution and the law and will not step back because of anyone’s intimidation. Referring to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s Constitution, he said his party would struggle to protect the Constitution, democracy and the country. He also raised questions over the programmes of Sakal Hindu Samaj and said his party, if needed, would take to the streets like the opposition to protest.

Asif Sheikh also raised questions on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and issues related to the voter list. He claimed that a large number of names have been removed from the voter list and said a struggle should first be launched on this issue. However, the figures and claims cited by him require independent verification. Sheikh said his party’s primary agenda would be to protect the Constitution and democracy. After his statement, the debate in Maharashtra over religious identity, political rhetoric and Jan Aakrosh Morchas has again intensified.
