Earth’s fireworks seen from space, Shubhanshu Shukla shares video

CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies, Bhopal:

Indian astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla has shared a strikingly beautiful video of Earth from space. In it, lightning flashing between clouds appears like fireworks. Watching the video, it seems as if Diwali is being celebrated on Earth as seen from space. However, the lights are not Diwali firecrackers, but natural lightning flashing in the sky.

Sharing the video on social media, Shubhanshu Shukla said he had recorded it during his stay on the International Space Station (ISS). He wrote that, when looking down from space, the flashes of lightning on Earth appeared to him like nature’s own fireworks. The sight was very special for him, and he decided to share it on the occasion of the festival.

Special memories linked to Diwali

In his message, Shubhanshu described Diwali as his favourite festival. He wrote that, since childhood, lights, sparkle and fireworks had always attracted him. Seeing lightning flashes from space was a unique experience for him. He described the scene as the universe celebrating a festival of lights in its own way.

He also extended greetings to his friends and their families on the occasion of Dhanteras. He wished that the festival would bring light, happiness, good health and prosperity into everyone’s lives.

Shubhanshu had reached space a year ago

Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla reached the International Space Station in June 2025 under the Axiom-4 mission. He became the first Indian astronaut to go to the space station and spent around 18 days in space during the mission. From there, he recorded several spectacular views of Earth. His new video is drawing people’s attention on social media.
