CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Uttar Pradesh government is running the Atal Residential School Scheme with the aim of providing quality education to daughters of economically weaker families and construction workers. Under the scheme, eligible girl students get the opportunity to receive free residential education from Class 6 to Class 12. Along with studies, arrangements are made for their accommodation, food, uniforms, books and other educational facilities. The objective of the scheme is to prevent children’s education from being disrupted due to financial difficulties and to provide them better opportunities for the future.

What is the Atal Residential School Scheme? The scheme was launched in 2022. Under it, eligible children of Uttar Pradesh are provided quality education in line with the CBSE curriculum. There are 18 Atal Residential Schools operating in the state. Separate hostels for girl students and necessary education-related facilities are provided in these schools. Selected students can take admission in Class 6 or Class 9 and continue further studies as per the prescribed rules.

Which girls can benefit? The benefit of the scheme is mainly available to children of registered construction workers who fulfil the prescribed eligibility criteria. In addition, under the relevant rules, children orphaned during the Covid-19 pandemic and children eligible under the Chief Minister Bal Seva Yojana may also be included. For the family of a construction worker, it is necessary to fulfil conditions related to labour registration and the period of membership of the board. In the guidelines for the previous admission session, there was a condition of at least three years of membership. Eligibility for the upcoming session should be confirmed through the latest official notification. Generally, a maximum of two children from one registered worker’s family may be eligible for admission under the scheme.

These facilities are provided along with free education: selected girl students are given free residential education from Class 6 to Class 12; accommodation and meals in the hostel; uniforms, books and other essential educational material; facilities such as sports, medical support and a safe campus; and studies in line with the CBSE curriculum as well as opportunities for personality development. How is admission granted? A selection test is conducted for admission to the prescribed classes in Atal Residential Schools. In the Class 6 examination, questions are asked on mental ability, arithmetic and language. In the Class 9 examination, subjects such as Hindi, English, mathematics and science are assessed. For admission, conditions related to application, age, educational qualification, residence and labour registration have to be fulfilled as per the notification for the relevant session.

Where can application information be obtained? Parents can check admission-related information on the official website of the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, upbocw.in, and on the website of the relevant district administration. Guidance can also be obtained from the nearest labour office. The last date for application and the examination schedule may vary for each admission session, so the latest information must be checked before filling the form.
