CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Department of English and the Literary Committee of Sarojini Naidu Government Girls’ College, Bhopal, successfully organised the two-day annual literary festival “Athena 2026”. Based on the theme “Echoes of Epics: Where Stories Resonate and Legacy Lives”, the festival highlighted the continuing relevance of literary narratives through dance, drama, character enactment and stage presentations.
The festival was inaugurated by college principal Pratima Yadav with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. On the first day, a dance-drama based on Indian epics was presented, with the perspectives, emotions and struggles of women characters at the centre. Janhvi Khare played Draupadi, Jagriti Tiwari played Amba, Akshita Singh played Gandhari, Sheema Raees played Satyavati, Pragya Jain played Ganga and Ushma played Hidimba. Through these characters, the students presented traditional narratives from a fresh perspective. Through dance and dramatic expression, they effectively brought to the stage the experiences, emotions and struggles of these characters.
This was followed by the “Literary Adaptation” programme, in which students dressed as literary and epic characters and expressed their dialogues, ideas, emotions and inner conflicts on stage. The activity gave students an opportunity to understand literary characters from a creative perspective and bring them alive through their acting skills.
On the second day of the festival, an inter-college character enactment competition was organised. The objective of the competition was to provide students from various colleges an opportunity to showcase their acting talent, creativity and expression skills through literary characters.
