CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Khelo India Tribal Games 2026, held in Chhattisgarh, concluded successfully, with Madhya Pradesh delivering an impressive performance by winning a total of 11 medals and securing the 11th position nationwide. In this inaugural edition, athletes from the state excelled across seven disciplines—archery, athletics, football, hockey, swimming, weightlifting, and wrestling.

National Platform for Tribal Talent

The primary objective of the competition was to promote traditional and mainstream sports within tribal communities and provide them with a national platform. A total of 133 खिलाड़ियों from Madhya Pradesh (81 पुरुष and 52 महिला) represented the state.

Outstanding Performance in Athletics

Athletics proved to be the most successful discipline for Madhya Pradesh, with a total of 5 medals—1 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze. Martina Lakda won silver in long jump, Gulab Singh secured gold in javelin throw, Rangalal Dodiyar earned bronze in the 5000-meter race, Aarti Dawar claimed silver, and Shanti Bai won bronze in the 800-meter race.

Strong Showing in Other Sports

In archery, Pawan Parmar, Pushpa Singh, Saloni Dabi, and Muskan Bhuriya won 2 bronze medals. In swimming, Srishti Verma secured silver in the 100-meter butterfly event. In weightlifting, Gunjan Uikey won bronze. In wrestling, Shiva Bhalavi clinched gold in the Greco-Roman 130 kg category, while Chandni Nareti earned bronze in the freestyle 62 kg category.

Government Appreciation and Future Prospects

Vishvas Kailash Sarang, Minister of Cooperation, Sports and Youth Welfare of Madhya Pradesh, expressed खुशी over the खिलाड़ियों’ outstanding प्रदर्शन and congratulated them. He stated that this success reflects the immense potential of hidden sports talent in tribal regions.

Through training programs, sports academies, and initiatives run by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, athletes from the state are consistently achieving excellence. These talented players from Madhya Pradesh have not only brought pride to the state by winning medals but have also become a source of inspiration for other youth and tribal athletes.
