CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Auraiya elderly woman killed, accused also attended her funeral rites

Auraiya. Police have made a sensational disclosure in the case of the killing of 62-year-old Bhuri Devi in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh. According to police, a conspiracy to loot cash and silver jewellery kept in the house was allegedly hatched through a phone conference call. Three accused, including the deceased woman’s relative Renu Sengar, have been arrested in the case, while a minor has been taken into police custody.

According to police, the case relates to Banthra village under the Bidhuna Kotwali area. Bhuri Devi lived alone at home, while her husband and two sons work in Faridabad, Haryana. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Bharti said that before Dussehra, Renu Sengar, Danveer Singh alias Golu Dhakre and Rajit Singh had spoken on a phone conference call. It is alleged that Renu shared information about cash and jewellery being kept at Bhuri Devi’s house and planned the theft.

As per the police investigation, on the night of October 23, Golu and a minor entered the house by scaling a wall and began stealing cash and jewellery. During this, Bhuri Devi woke up. Fearing that they would be caught and that she would raise an alarm, the accused allegedly strangled her with a towel, causing her death.

The most shocking aspect of the case, according to police, is that the accused also attended Bhuri Devi’s funeral to avoid suspicion. Police later reached the accused when they had gathered to divide the stolen items.

Police said they recovered Rs 9,400 in cash, a pair of silver anklets weighing about 60 grams and 11 silver toe rings weighing around 15 grams from the accused. Police are taking further legal action in the case. The final decision on the charges against the accused will be made in court.
