CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: Under Yoga Week being observed in connection with International Day of Yoga, various awareness and training programmes were organised at the Indian Council of Medical Research-Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (ICMR-BMHRC), Bhopal.

A Garbh Sanskar programme for pregnant women was organised at Health Centre No. 2 in Station Bajaria. Yoga teacher Sushil Singh informed participants about yoga practices that can be performed during pregnancy and their benefits.

BMHRC officiating director Dr. Manisha Srivastava highlighted the importance of Garbh Sanskar and said that positive thinking, a balanced lifestyle, proper diet and yoga practice during pregnancy play an important role in building a healthy and cultured generation. She urged pregnant women to remain alert about their health and to follow medical advice regularly.

Awareness and meditation programmes held at BMHRC during Yoga Week

After this, a special yoga awareness programme was organised at BMHRC's Sickle Cell Competency Centre for patients suffering from sickle cell disease. During the programme, patients were informed about yoga practices beneficial for their health and the benefits of regular practice.

As part of Yoga Week, the Isha Foundation also organised meditation (yoga) training in the institute auditorium for doctors, staff, teachers, PG students, nursing students and paramedical students. During the training, participants were told ways to reduce mental stress, improve concentration and enhance overall health through meditation and yoga.

Special medical camp held on World Sickle Cell Day: On the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day, a special medical and awareness camp was organised at BMHRC on 18 June for patients suffering from sickle cell disease. Around 50 patients and their family members were screened at the camp. Physiotherapy experts explained exercises useful in reducing the effects of sickle cell disease and maintaining physical capacity. Pain Clinic specialists provided pain management counselling to patients suffering from pain. At the same time, the Psychiatry Department counselled patients and provided mental and emotional support. Notably, the first Competency Centre for sickle cell disease in Madhya Pradesh has been established at BMHRC.
