CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of Executive Professor Ajay Singh, the Department of Anesthesia at AIIMS organized a play on the occasion of Organ Donation Day. To raise awareness about organ donation, a street play was organized by the Department of Anesthesia. This play was performed by MBBS students, nursing staff, and doctors. Annually, 750,000 kidney transplants are needed in India, while only 11,000 kidneys are obtained through organ donation. Hence, there is a need to increase awareness about organ donation so that more lives can be saved.
Currently, the number of dialysis cases, where blood is purified, is rapidly increasing in India. The permanent solution to this can only be achieved when people donate their kidneys. Through organ donation, even after death, a person’s organ lives on in another’s body, giving that organ a new life. Dr. Ajay Singh stated that organ donation not only gives life to an individual but also to an entire family. AIIMS is running an effective program to promote organ transplantation across the country and the state through such events.
