CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Awareness and Screening Camps Organized in Healthcare Institutions on GDM Day

On the occasion of GDM (Gestational Diabetes Mellitus) Day, awareness programs and GDM screening camps were organized across healthcare institutions to educate pregnant women and their families about the importance of GDM screening and early pregnancy registration.

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: A Serious Concern

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a major cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity, potentially affecting the health of both mother and baby.

GDM is a condition in which elevated blood sugar levels are detected for the first time during pregnancy. Due to hormonal and physiological changes during pregnancy, the body fails to regulate blood sugar effectively, leading to increased glucose levels. This can pose serious health risks for both the mother and the unborn child.

Importance of Early Screening and Registration

Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari, Chief Medical & Health Officer, Bhopal, emphasized that as soon as a woman confirms her pregnancy, she should immediately contact an ASHA worker or healthcare professional for registration and screening.

Free GDM screening facilities are available at:

✅ District Hospitals

✅ Civil Hospitals

✅ Community Health Centers (CHCs)

✅ Primary Health Centers (PHCs)

✅ Health & Wellness Centers

These initiatives aim to ensure early detection, timely intervention, and better maternal and neonatal health outcomes.
