CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress / ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of No Tobacco Day, an awareness rally was taken out from Collector Office Bhopal. Along with this, a street play was staged for awareness about cancer caused by tobacco.

In the program, the character of Yamraj gave a message to warn against death due to tobacco consumption. During this period, an oath was taken not to use tobacco by conducting a signature campaign to make the general public aware of the serious harm of tobacco products. Additional Collector Himanshu Chandra, Chief Medical and Health Officer Bhopal Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari, Nodal Officer Tobacco Control Program Manoj Hurmade, Dentist Neelima Soni were present in the program organized by the Health Department Bhopal. Special participation was given by Rishiraj Dental College and Scouts and Guides.

A special oral cancer screening camp was organized at Jai Prakash District Hospital on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day. In which the initial symptoms of oral cancer were examined. Community Health Centre Kolar, Community Health Centre Gandhinagar and Civil Hospital Berasia Special oral cancer screening camps were conducted in the operated dental unit. Counselling sessions were organized in all Ayushman Arogya Mandirs of the district to know the initial symptoms of oral cancer and their diagnosis.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Bhopal Prabhakar Tiwari said that about 14 lakh people die every year in India due to diseases caused by tobacco consumption. 27% of all cancers are due to tobacco consumption. 38% of TB deaths are related to tobacco use.  Lung cancer, oral cancer due to tobacco consumption There can be serious diseases like cancer, prostate cancer, throat cancer, heart diseases, difficulty in breathing. There are many short-term and many long-term benefits of quitting tobacco use.  Heart rate and blood pressure return to normal within 20 minutes of quitting tobacco use. Carbon monoxide levels return to normal in 12 hours.  In 2 to 12 weeks, circulation improves and lung function increases. The cough discomfort subsides in 1 to 9 months.

According to the Global Adult Tobacco Survey 2, tobacco products are killing more than 1.3 million people in India every year. According to the survey, 50.2% of men and 17.3% of women consume tobacco in the state.  24.7% of adults are exposed to unpredictable smoking in public spaces.

According to the Global Youth Tobacco Survey, 55,000 children are regularly joining the list of tobacco users every year. This year the day is being celebrated to fulfill the objective of “Protecting Children from the Interference of the Tobacco Industry”. In which it is to be ensured that the policies related to the prevention of tobacco consumption and to make the general public aware of the physical and mental side effects of tobacco consumption are strictly followed. For strict compliance of COTPA Act 2003, challan action will be taken against smokers in public places by the inspection team till June 21.
