Several private hospitals in Haryana’s Faridabad, Gurugram and nearby areas have decided to temporarily stop services under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Hospitals say they are facing financial pressure because of delays in pending treatment payments from the government.
The step by private hospitals has been taken as a one-day protest. Hospital operators say payments have been repeatedly delayed after treating patients under the Ayushman scheme. This is making it increasingly difficult for hospitals to continue services under the scheme. The protest has also received the support of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
Emergency and routine treatment to continue
Information has emerged that emergency services and treatment for non-Ayushman patients will continue in hospitals while Ayushman services are suspended. This means hospitals are not completely shut; the protest is mainly over services related to cashless treatment under the Ayushman card.
What should patients do?
Ayushman cardholders in Faridabad should confirm with the concerned hospital before going for treatment whether services under PM-JAY are available there on that day. The Haryana government’s official website has a list of Ayushman Bharat empanelled hospitals for Faridabad.
It is also important to note that the Ayushman card can be used only in hospitals empanelled under the scheme. Both government and private hospitals can be part of the scheme’s network.
The ongoing payment dispute between hospitals and the government has become a matter of concern for patients. If the pending payments are not resolved soon, private hospitals may warn of further protests.
