CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Prayagraj. Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam Khan have got relief from the Allahabad High Court in the two PAN cards case. On Thursday, the court suspended the sentences of both and granted them bail. However, the court did not accept their plea seeking a stay on conviction. With this decision, they have received relief in this case, but the lower court’s finding of guilt currently remains in force.

Justice Samit Gopal’s bench delivered the order. A single bench of Justice Samit Gopal passed the order after hearing the criminal revision petitions of Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam. Both had challenged the lower court’s decision and sought a stay on conviction, suspension of sentence and grant of bail. The High Court accepted the pleas for suspension of sentence and bail, but refused to stay the conviction.

What is the two PAN cards case? The case relates to Abdullah Azam allegedly possessing two PAN cards with different dates of birth. The prosecution has alleged that the second PAN card was also used in documents. A complaint was filed in the matter in 2019. In November 2025, a Rampur court convicted Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam and sentenced them. Both later challenged the decision.

Relief in other cases is necessary despite bail. Even after the High Court order, their release from jail will depend on the legal status of other pending cases. If their custody is required in any other case, bail granted in this matter alone will not ensure immediate release. Since the conviction has not been stayed, the order also does not automatically provide any relief regarding their eligibility to contest elections. The court’s decision has given Azam Khan and his son legal relief in the two PAN cards case. However, the final disposal of the matter will take place after further hearing on their revision petitions.
