CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Amarjit Singh, the key accused in the murder of Dera Kar Seva chief Baba Tarsem Singh, was gunned down in an encounter with the Uttarakhand Special Task Force during the early hours of Tuesday. Police are on the lookout for his accomplice.

Uttarakhand Police DGP Abhinav Kumar told ANI that Amarjit was shot down and his accomplice fled from the scene. Amarjit had a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head and Haridwar police, Uttarakhand Special Task Force are on the look out for his accomplice, Kumar said.

Uttarakhand police registered an FIR against five persons, including a retired IAS officer in the case. Those named in the FIR include the two assailants — Sarabjit Singh and Amarjeet Singh — IAS officer Harbans Singh Chugh who heads the Nanakmatta Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Baba Anup Singh and Pritam Singh Sandhu, the vice-president of a regional Sikh outfit, police said.
