CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bahraich. An unusual case linked to a love affair has come to light in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. Demanding nikah with her lover, a young woman climbed a mobile tower about 100 feet high. Her lover was living in Mumbai in connection with work, while both families were not ready for the marriage.
After several hours of developments, both families agreed to the nikah following police mediation. The marriage ritual was then completed through a video call, and the young woman came down safely.
The incident took place on October 23 in Chaudhary village under Motipur police station area of Bahraich. According to reports, the young woman, a resident of Basthanwa village, was in a relationship with Nooruddin of her village. Both wanted to marry, but the matter was not moving forward because of opposition from the families. The woman then climbed a BSNL mobile tower in Chaudhary village and began demanding nikah.
After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot. Police personnel and villagers tried for a long time to persuade the woman to come down safely, but she remained firm on her demand for nikah. Considering the seriousness of the situation, police began talks with both families and tried to build mutual consent.
After prolonged discussions, both families agreed to the nikah. A qazi was then called to the spot, and contact was made through video call with Nooruddin, who was in Mumbai. With the consent of both, the online nikah ritual was completed. The woman was then brought down safely. Police heaved a sigh of relief and spoke to both families to resolve the matter peacefully.
A crowd of villagers had gathered at the spot during the incident. The case has once again triggered discussion on family consent, relationships and young people’s decisions regarding marriage. However, steps such as climbing a high tower can prove life-threatening. In such cases, dialogue and a safe resolution must be given priority.
