CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: ‘World Circadian Day 2026’ was observed on Wednesday in the Department of Zoology at the University of Lucknow. The programme was organised jointly by the Indian Society of Chronomedicine, the ISCM-FBRL Rhythm Centre and the Nutrition Council of India. This year’s theme was ‘Circadian Health for All: From Healthy Childhood to Healthy Ageing’.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Amita Kanaujia, head of the Department of Zoology. Prof. Shaili Malik welcomed the guests, teachers, research scholars and students.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Narsingh Verma, secretary general of the Indian Society of Chronomedicine and principal and dean of the Sardar Patel Institute of Medical and Health Sciences, highlighted various aspects of chronomedicine and healthy ageing. He said the body’s internal biological clock affects sleep, digestion, metabolism, heart health and mental state.

Prof. Verma said sleeping and waking at regular times, eating meals at fixed times and adopting a daily routine in tune with natural light are essential for health. Continuous imbalance in the biological clock can increase the risk of sleep-related problems as well as issues linked to metabolism, heart health and mental health. For a healthy and long life, it is necessary to adopt a lifestyle aligned with the body’s natural rhythm.

According to the organisers, World Circadian Day, observed on June 24, has been initiated in 2026 by the Society for Research on Biological Rhythms. Its objective is to make people aware of the body’s 24-hour biological clock and its effects on health.
