CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal / Banaras: Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) marked another historic milestone in its illustrious journey today, as General Manager Naresh Pal Singh dedicated the 2500th electric rail engine to the nation. The grand ceremony, held at the BLW campus, was made even more special by the active participation of women employees, symbolizing women empowerment.

On this occasion, a 44-member delegation of the National Press Party, led by Executive Director (Information & Publicity) Dilip Kumar, visited BLW. A detailed presentation on BLW’s achievements, exports, indigenous manufacturing, and green energy initiatives was showcased at the Hall of Fame. The delegates also toured BLW’s state-of-the-art workshops and observed the locomotive manufacturing process.

What began in 2017 with just two engines has now reached the production of the 2500th electric locomotive, demonstrating BLW’s capacity, commitment, and innovation. In total, 10,822 locomotives have been manufactured by BLW so far.

The 2500th engine is a WAP-7 class locomotive, featuring 6000 HP power, air-conditioned cabs, and regenerative braking technology. It has been dispatched to the Krishnarajapuram Shed of South Western Railway.

This achievement by BLW is a strong step toward Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and reinforces India’s growing global technological identity.
