CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: All public sector banks and regional rural banks across the country will remain open as usual on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The Finance Ministry has taken the decision in view of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30. The government says customers could face inconvenience if banking services remain affected for several consecutive days.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called a strike on September 28, 29 and 30. Before that, September 26 and 27 fall on the weekend holiday. In normal circumstances, banking services could therefore have been affected for five consecutive days. The decision to open banks on Sunday has been taken to reduce this possible disruption. The Reserve Bank of India has also approved keeping all bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests operational on September 27. However, the order to open banks on Sunday applies specifically to public sector banks and regional rural banks.

One of the key demands of the bank unions is the implementation of a five-day banking system. The government and bank managements have appealed to the unions to withdraw the proposed strike, but no announcement has yet been made that the strike has been called off. September 30 is also an important date for the banking sector’s half-yearly closing, so a prolonged disruption during this period could affect customers and businesses.
