CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: In an effort to promote responsible and humane treatment of animals, a one-day practical workshop on “Animal Ethical Considerations and Animal Handling in Biological Experiments” was successfully organized at Barkatullah University, Bhopal, under the Prime Minister’s Higher Education Campaign (PM USHA) project. The workshop, conducted by the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics, aimed to provide participants with practical skills in handling various animals in a safe and compassionate manner. The program was organized with the support and guidance of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor S.K. Jain, whose encouragement and leadership were key to its success.

Chief Guest’s Address:

Dr. Ragini Gothalwal, Director and Dean of Life Sciences, and Head of the Department of Biotechnology, graced the event as a special guest. She delivered an insightful address, emphasizing how such workshops provide valuable opportunities for academic excellence and research.

Keynote Speakers’ Address:

The workshop’s inaugural session featured lectures by distinguished subject experts and keynote speakers, Professor Megha Katare Pandey from AIIMS Bhopal, specializing in Translational Medicine, and Professor Vandana Gupta from Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, Jabalpur.

Introduction to PM USHA Project:

PM USHA Project Nodal Officer, Vipin Vyas, introduced students to the details and framework of various programs implemented under the PM USHA initiative.

Book Launch Ceremony:

During the opening session, Dr. Rekha Khandia, Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics at Barkatullah University, officially launched her latest book, “Guidelines for Animal Ethical Considerations and Animal Handling in Biological Experiments.” She highlighted the importance of ethical responsibilities in biological experiments.

Session Management and Student Participation:

Guest faculty Pooja Pandey led the program and delivered the welcome speech. In the subsequent sessions, invited experts Megha Katare Pandey and Vandana Gupta provided practical instructions and guidance on the ethical standards and safety protocols involved in animal handling. Several department heads and faculty members attended the event, and approximately 110 students registered for the workshop, reflecting their enthusiasm.
