CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of National Girl Child Day, a seminar on “Girls’ Rights: Ancient and Contemporary Perspectives” was organized by the Women’s Studies Department at Barkatullah University as part of the university’s Indian Knowledge Tradition activities. The event also honored students of Barkatullah University who excelled in national and state-level competitions and secured positions on the university’s merit list. The program was held under the guidance of Barkatullah University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S.K. Jain.

Highlights of the Event:

The seminar on “Girls’ Rights: Ancient and Contemporary Perspectives” was chaired by Professor Mona Purohit, Head of the Department of Legal Studies and Research. In her address, she emphasized the need for gender sensitization concerning girls’ rights.

Professor Ruchi Ghosh Dastidar, Head of the Women’s Studies Department, outlined the program’s objectives, stating that National Girl Child Day is celebrated across the country each year to create a positive environment for the growth of girls. She highlighted that the day aims to raise awareness about girls’ rights, their achievements, the importance of education, and their empowerment. She also discussed how society can contribute to these objectives. Examples of notable Indian women, such as Ahilyabai Holkar, Rani Lakshmibai, and Savitribai Phule, were presented to inspire students and emphasize women’s role in nation-building.

Research Paper Presentations:

Students from Barkatullah University presented research papers on topics related to girls’ rights.

Inspirational Video Screening:

A motivational short film, “Idli Amma,” was screened during the event.

Recognition and Awards:

Students who excelled in various national and state-level competitions and secured top ranks in university exams were honored.

Winners of the essay competition on the topic “Role of Girls in Societal Development” were also awarded.

Discussions and Awareness:

Discussions were held about the significance of girls’ education, achievements, and empowerment.

The event was coordinated by Jaya Phookan from the Women’s Studies Department, with active participation from students and a significant presence of university faculty members.
