CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A major political controversy has erupted in West Bengal over remarks related to the Babri Masjid, triggering a sharp exchange between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. The BJP has accused the state government of indulging in appeasement politics and alleged that such actions are part of a deliberate strategy to change the demographic and political character of the state, controversially terming it an attempt to create a “mini-Bangladesh.”

Senior BJP leaders have claimed that repeated references to sensitive historical and religious issues are aimed at polarising voters and diverting attention from governance-related concerns such as law and order, unemployment, and border security. The ruling TMC, however, has strongly rejected these allegations, accusing the BJP of spreading misinformation and communal rhetoric to gain political mileage ahead of elections.

The controversy has intensified the already charged political atmosphere in the state, with both parties trading accusations and mobilising supporters. Political analysts believe the issue reflects deeper ideological divides and the growing intensity of electoral politics in Bengal. As the row escalates, calls for restraint and responsible political discourse have emerged, highlighting concerns over social harmony and communal peace in the state.
