CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: BJP MP Tejasvi Surya has been booked by Bengaluru police following his controversial remarks linking a farmer’s suicide to the Wakf property dispute. Surya recently commented that the farmer’s tragic death was influenced by land-related disputes involving the Wakf Board, sparking backlash from various political groups and community leaders. His remarks, made during a public event, suggested that Wakf properties in Karnataka were being mishandled, contributing to distress among farmers.

Following his statements, multiple complaints were filed, leading the Bengaluru police to register an FIR against Surya under sections that address spreading communal disharmony and making inflammatory statements. Opposition leaders accused Surya of inciting division and politicizing a sensitive issue for electoral gains. The Karnataka Congress demanded an apology, calling his comments “irresponsible and divisive.”

Responding to the FIR, Tejasvi Surya defended his remarks, stating that his intention was to highlight issues faced by farmers and called for greater transparency in the management of Wakf properties. He criticized the opposition for “misinterpreting” his words. Meanwhile, police officials have stated that they will proceed with the investigation, aiming to assess if Surya’s statements had any broader implications for public order.
