CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University, Bhopal, in collaboration with the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC), Bhopal, organised a camp for the distribution of assistive devices and support materials for persons with disabilities at Government JNS College, Shujalpur.

The chief guest, Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar, congratulated the beneficiaries and said the distribution of assistive devices would bring positive change in the lives of persons with disabilities and help them live self-reliant lives with dignity. He appreciated the work being done by Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University and CRC Bhopal in reaching persons with disabilities at the grassroots level.

Parmar said the Madhya Pradesh government is continuously working to make persons with disabilities self-reliant. In the same direction, various types of assistive materials were being distributed to persons with disabilities in Shujalpur, he said, adding that such programmes would continue across the state. The government’s resolve, he said, is to train persons with disabilities in skills so that they can live independently and with dignity. Whatever assistance is required from the government for this purpose will be made available, he said.

On the occasion, he expressed concern that the problem of drug addiction is increasing in society and is hollowing it out from within. He appealed that people must stay away from intoxicants and that young people, in particular, must avoid all forms of addiction. “A drug-free society is our resolve,” he said.

Bhoj Open University distributes assistive devices to persons with disabilities

The programme was presided over by Prof. Milind Dandekar, Vice-Chancellor of Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University. In his presidential address, Prof. Dandekar reiterated the university’s commitment to the empowerment of persons with disabilities and inclusive education. He highlighted various activities and programmes being conducted by the university across the state for the welfare and skill development of persons with disabilities.

Dr Hemant Keshwal, Head of the Department of Education, Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University, welcomed the guests and presented the outline of the programme. He said the assistive material distribution camp for persons with disabilities was part of a series of programmes organised by the university in collaboration with CRC Bhopal. He said that earlier, awareness and training programmes had been organised for Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and teachers. This was followed by a screening and identification camp for persons with disabilities, in which 193 persons were examined. On the basis of the assessment, 41 beneficiaries were provided assistive devices and materials according to their needs for mobility, education and daily life.

Faculty members of the college, students, social workers and family members of the beneficiaries were present in large numbers at the programme.
