CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A lecture program on “Intellectual Property Rights and Its Importance for Entrepreneurs and Innovators” was organized in the auditorium of Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University.
Keynote Address by Chief Guest Mona Purohit
The event’s chief guest and keynote speaker, Mona Purohit, Dean, Faculty of Law, Barkatullah University, Bhopal, emphasized the importance of understanding intellectual property laws. She explained that a person can claim ownership of intellectual property only when they present their idea in a tangible form.
She highlighted the difference between intellectual property and intellectual property rights (IPR) and discussed the Bowler Provision and its relevance to inventors. In her lecture, she elaborated on trade secrets, copyright laws, and the significance of the 2005 TRIPS Agreement. She also clarified the difference between invention and innovation, stating that copyrights have international validity, whereas patents are geographically restricted and valid for 20 years.
Furthermore, Mona Purohit discussed the Trademark Act of 1999 and the Designs Act of 2000, stressing that understanding IPR is crucial for becoming a successful entrepreneur and innovator.
Insights from Professor Shailendra Jaiswal
Special speaker Professor Shailendra Jaiswal, Professor of Practice at Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University, shared his insights on innovation. He emphasized three critical aspects of any invention:
Is it feasible?
Is it desirable?
Is it valuable?
He remarked that entrepreneurs always find opportunities in crises and encouraged them to change their perspective. He also spoke about open education institutions, suggesting a shift from deductive to inductive learning methods.
Remarks by Vice-Chancellor Sanjay Tiwari
The program was presided over by MP Bhoj Open University Vice-Chancellor Sanjay Tiwari, who highlighted the significance of intellectual property rights in India’s growth. He urged people to avoid using pirated software and spread awareness about its negative impact. Providing various examples, he noted that India ranks sixth globally in patent registrations and emphasized the need to prevent the use of pirated software.
