CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: ICAI's Bhopal branch (CIRC) organised a highly important and timely seminar on the GST Appellate Tribunal. The programme assumed special significance as Bhopal has received a bench of the GST Appellate Tribunal for the first time, which is expected to bring major relief to taxpayers and tax professionals in Madhya Pradesh.

The importance of the event also increased because the last date for filing appeals before the GST Appellate Tribunal against first appellate orders passed up to February 28, 2026, is June 30, 2026. In this context, the seminar featured detailed discussions on the process of filing appeals, practical challenges and various aspects of GST litigation.

Justice Rupesh Chandra Varshney, Vice-Chairperson, GST Appellate Tribunal, and Upendra Singh, Judicial Member, GST Appellate Tribunal, were present at the programme.

On the occasion, CA Aditya P. Srivastava, Chairman, Bhopal branch, ICAI, said the establishment of the GST Appellate Tribunal in Bhopal is a historic achievement for the state's taxpayers and tax professionals. He said that in view of the June 30, 2026 deadline for filing appeals, such programmes are the need of the hour so that members can understand the finer points of GST appellate proceedings.

Bhopal branch hosts seminar on GST Appellate Tribunal appeal procedures

During the programme, Vinit Kumar, Deputy Registrar, GST Appellate Tribunal, and Amit Kumar, Assistant Registrar, GST Appellate Tribunal, shared important information on procedures related to filing appeals and the reliefs provided by the government. Renowned GST expert CA Ashok Batra shared his views on the latest developments in GST law and important judicial decisions.

A special highlight of the seminar was a mock GST tribunal, in which CA Sandeep Mukherjee and CA Pradeep Mutreja presented effective arguments on behalf of both sides in a case. The session gave participants practical exposure to the actual process of advocacy before the GST Appellate Tribunal and was highly appreciated by the members present.

The programme was conducted successfully by CA Abhishek Jain, Secretary, Bhopal branch. Senior members and office-bearers of the branch were present in notable numbers, including CA Salil Jain, CA Abhishek Gupta, CA Suresh Wadhwani, CA Saurabh Srivastava, CA Amita Varshney, CA Nandan Narula (Treasurer, Bhopal branch) and CA Piyush Chatar (Chairman, CIKASA, Bhopal).
