CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A simple farmer from Ratua Ratanpur village in Bhopal district, Omnarayan Kushwaha, has set an example of success by leveraging his determination and the benefits of schemes from the Agriculture and Horticulture Department. In 2020, Director Kushwaha started a nursery with 10,000 plants, which has now grown to more than 250,000 plants, successfully running the nursery. Along with increasing his own income, he has also provided employment opportunities to 5-6 people in his village.
Director Kushwaha’s journey to success began when he came into contact with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and received training on developing polyhouses and nurseries from the Navibagh Agricultural Research Center in Bhopal. With the confidence gained from this training, he started a small nursery where he grows hybrid plants of vegetables such as brinjal, tomato, chili, bottle gourd, cucumber, and others. He has supplied vegetable plants of varieties like Seminis, Fazenta, and Ankur BNR to farmers in Bhopal and nearby districts.
Director Kushwaha shared that by taking advantage of the government’s drip irrigation scheme, he has achieved higher yields with less water. He regularly participates in various training programs organized by the Agriculture Department and has now started receiving advanced farming training in several states across the country.
Director Kushwaha owns 8 acres of land, but due to water scarcity, he was previously able to cultivate only 1-2 acres. However, after digging a well and finding ample water, he now farms on his entire land. In 2021, he took training in polyhouse and warehouse construction and built a small polyhouse of his own.
Director Kushwaha expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and urged farmers to take advantage of the training and schemes provided by the Agriculture Department to increase their income. His story serves as an inspiration to other farmers, showing that with the right guidance and the benefits of government schemes, they too can change their fortunes.
