On the occasion, Gaurav Rawat said: “Swachh Bharat is the responsibility of every citizen and a pledge of collective participation. Sports and fitness inspire people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, while activities such as plogging connect fitness with the social responsibility of cleanliness. This campaign, organised at an important natural site of our city such as Lower Lake, promotes cleanliness along with fitness and helps realise Mahatma Gandhi ji’s dream of a clean India. Our purpose in choosing this place was that many of our national and international athletes train here. It is our responsibility to keep this water clean. Through this, we want to convey the message that people should maintain cleanliness around them. They should incorporate cleanliness into their daily routine and spread cleanliness all around.”

Through the mega plogging campaign, participants sought to take the message of “cleanliness with fitness” and moving towards health through cleanliness to the public. The programme brought together physical activity, environmental protection and community participation, underlining the need for citizen participation in building a clean and healthy India.
