CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director Ajay Singh, the institute continues to promote academic excellence and research initiatives. In this pursuit, a research project led by Dr. Anshul Rai from the Dental Department and his team gained international recognition. Dr. Rai presented his research on Oral Submucous Fibrosis at a global conference held in Singapore, which saw participation from over 2,000 experts across 80 countries.

The study focused on patients with long-term consumption of substances like tobacco and areca nut (supari). Conducted on 105 patients, the study found a significantly higher risk of Oral Submucous Fibrosis associated with the use of tobacco-mixed pouch products. Alarmingly, 8 of these patients later developed oral cancer. The research also revealed a shocking fact: even children under the age of 10 were found to be affected by this condition.

Dr. Rai’s team developed customized surgical and physiotherapy protocols for different age groups, which yielded improved treatment outcomes. For this work, they have received one patent and four copyrights from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Director Ajay Singh emphasized the importance of this research for both medical science and public health, and he praised Dr. Rai’s team for their commendable efforts.
