CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The government has taken a strict stand over delays in the construction of school buildings and hostels in Bihar. The Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation (BSEIDC) has imposed a total penalty of Rs 73.33 lakh on five contractors who failed to complete work within the stipulated timeline. Along with this, action is also being taken in several other cases to debar contractors, issue show-cause notices and cancel contracts for construction works that have remained incomplete for a long time.
How much penalty was imposed on five contractors? The details of penalties imposed for delays in construction works are as follows: Hariom Construction: Rs 28.42 lakh; Adhyay Engicon: Rs 16.30 lakh; Akshit Engineering: Rs 15.80 lakh; M.K. Gupta: Rs 11.36 lakh; Ajay Kumar: Rs 1.45 lakh. A total penalty of Rs 73.33 lakh has been imposed on all of them.
Projects are incomplete in several districts. Action has been taken over delays in the construction of schools and hostels in Nawada, Nalanda, Kishanganj, Madhepura and Gaya. Meanwhile, the process of cancelling contracts for construction works pending for a long time in Araria, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Katihar, Sheohar and Kishanganj has been expedited.
Contract cancelled, security deposit also forfeited. In a case of serious irregularity, the work order of Shivangi Construction has been cancelled and its security deposit has been forfeited. In some other cases, action has also been initiated to forfeit contractors’ security deposits and the EMD deposited at the time of tender.
Emphasis on completing construction on time. The Education Department says negligence in the construction of school buildings and hostels will not be tolerated. The government’s objective is to provide educational institutions with necessary basic facilities and ensure that construction projects are completed within the deadline.
