Floods Affect 5 Million in Bihar, Alerts Issued Across States

CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The flood situation in Bihar remains serious. According to official reports, around 5 million people in nearly 15 districts of the state have been affected by floods. Rising water levels in several rivers, including the Ganga, have caused waterlogging in low-lying areas and disrupted movement.

Amid the floods, the state government is engaged in relief and rescue operations. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary will today conduct aerial and ground surveys of affected areas, including Hajipur, Dighwara and Maner. He will also inspect relief camps and review disaster management with officials.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued alerts for heavy rain and strong winds in Bihar and several other states across the country. Heavy rain and thunderstorms have been forecast on 16 September in several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. In some areas, wind speeds may reach up to 75 km per hour.

Despite below-normal rainfall in Bihar this season, the state is facing a severe flood situation. Expert reports have also cited local weather conditions, increased river water levels and drainage-related factors as being responsible for the situation.
