CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Neeraj Kumar Singh of Saran district in Bihar has achieved a major milestone in higher education in the United States after emerging from limited financial circumstances. Neeraj has received a fully funded scholarship for a PhD in Educational Leadership at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The estimated financial support for the full duration is said to be around ₹2.6 crore.
Neeraj is a resident of Satjora village in Panapur block of Saran district. His father runs a paan shop. Despite economic challenges, Neeraj continued his studies. After Class 10, he completed his education with the help of local residents and well-wishers. He then earned a BSc from Jai Prakash University and a Master of Social Work from the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development.
After joining Nehru Yuva Kendra in 2017, Neeraj worked on several projects related to youth development, health, education and community development. Apart from India, he also worked on youth and community programmes in several Asian countries. This experience encouraged him to move towards research in the fields of education and social development.
During his PhD, Neeraj has also been given the responsibility of a teaching assistant at the university. The scholarship includes tuition fees, health insurance and a regular stipend. His research focuses on subjects such as multilingual education, equity in education and inclusive education. Neeraj wants to work as a professor in the field of education and research in the future.
