CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day 2025, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Bhopal Branch Office, organized the Standards Festival at Hotel Radisson, Bhopal.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Partha Sarathi Mandal, Scientist-E/Director and Head of the BIS Bhopal Branch Office.
Speaking at the event, Director Mandal stated that the Bureau of Indian Standards is the national standard body of India, functioning under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. On the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day, he explained the roles and objectives of BIS, highlighting that the organization contributes significantly to the national economy by ensuring the availability of safe and reliable quality products, and by reducing health hazards for consumers. He also shared information about BIS’s promotional activities such as Standard Club initiatives and Gram Panchayat awareness campaigns.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Karmveer Sharma, Commissioner and Director of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Protection, Government of Madhya Pradesh, along with Special Guest Prof. Subrata Roy, Dean of the National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Bhopal, emphasized the importance of products manufactured according to BIS standards and parameters.
Director Mohammad Rizwan, Scientist-E, and Director Rahul Kumar, Scientist-C/Deputy Director, gave an overview of the Bureau of Indian Standards and its various activities. They elaborated on the formulation of standards, the BIS Care app, the official BIS website, the ISI mark, hallmarking on gold jewellery, and the HUID system.
A presentation was also given on the standard IS 18267:2024, which relates to utensils made from agricultural by-products for serving food, as part of the “Manak Manthan” (Standards Dialogue) session. Various aspects of the standard were discussed during this session.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, where participants interacted directly with BIS officials to clarify their queries. The attendees appreciated BIS’s efforts and initiatives aimed at enhancing consumer safety and awareness.
