CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies: Road construction work is being affected after bitumen prices rose by nearly two-and-a-half times. As a result, asphalting work on 42 roads has stalled. Contractors are currently not ready to complete these works, valued at around Rs 32 crore.

Contractors say there is now a major gap between the approved rates and current market prices. In such a situation, they say it has become financially difficult for them to work at the fixed cost.

Bitumen used in road asphalting is a key component of construction costs. The sudden rise in its prices has created a challenge for contractors in completing the work. They argue that material prices have increased significantly compared with the time when the work contracts were awarded. This has raised concerns over losses in construction work.

Contractors and the officials concerned have held discussions on the issue. Contractors have been assured that reimbursement for the increased cost will be arranged. However, a decision on starting the work will be taken by the contractors only after the process and amount of reimbursement become clear.

For now, with work on 42 roads affected, the asphalting plan is waiting to move forward. If the cost-related dispute is not resolved soon, construction and repair work on these roads may face further delays.
