CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: BJP leads UP MLC polls 4-2, counting continues on five seats

Lucknow. The contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) continued in the results of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council (MLC) elections. In the results declared for six seats by the afternoon of October 28, 2026, the BJP won four seats, while two seats went to the SP. Counting continued on the remaining five seats. Political parties are closely watching the results of these elections.

According to the declared results, the BJP won the Meerut Graduates, Meerut Teachers, Lucknow Teachers and Bareilly-Moradabad Teachers constituencies. Dinesh Kumar Goel from the Meerut Graduates seat, Shrichand Sharma from the Meerut Teachers seat, Umesh Dwivedi from the Lucknow Teachers seat and Dr. Hari Singh Dhillon from the Bareilly-Moradabad Teachers seat were declared elected. The Samajwadi Party, meanwhile, won the Varanasi and Agra Teachers constituencies. Lal Bihari Yadav registered victory from Varanasi, while Dr. Akash Agarwal won the Agra Teachers seat. These results have brought the political competition between the two major parties into focus.

During counting on the remaining five seats, contests were continuing in different constituencies. These include graduates and teachers constituencies. Counting for the Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers seat also remained in discussion, where a close contest was seen between BJP’s Dhruv Kumar Tripathi and independent candidate Rajiv Yadav. Some candidates also raised objections regarding the counting process on this seat.

The election results for these 11 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council seats are significant in terms of the state’s political activity. However, rather than treating these results as a direct indication of Assembly election outcomes, they need to be viewed in the context of the respective constituencies and voter groups.
